Choosing the correct bat size for juniors

Bat size is set by the player's height, not their age. As a rough guide: 4'0"–4'3" takes a size 4; 4'3"–4'6" a size 5; 4'6"–4'9" a size 6; 4'9"–5'0" a Harrow; and 5'0"–5'6" a short-handle (SH) size 6 or full SH.

The test that matters: with the bat held down by the side, the top of the handle should reach the top of the hip bone, and the child should be able to lift and swing it with the top hand alone without dropping the toe.

When in doubt, size down. A slightly smaller, lighter bat lets a young batter play straight and late — the foundation of every good technique.
